Gauteng police to oppose urgent application to High Court in relation to an investigation on controversial bomb threats

The SAPS in Gauteng will oppose an urgent application to the High Court in Johannesburg.

Sanctioned by the Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Deliwe de Lange, the Gauteng Provincial Investigating Unit of the SAPS is leading an intelligence-driven operation following the spate of bomb threats targeting a number of shopping centres across the Province since August 2016.

This has led to the identification and tracking of possible suspects, resulting in the confiscation of certain exhibits, which include computers.

The suspects have since filed an urgent application for motion to the High Court in Johannesburg, to order Police not to download information from the computers, and to declare the search warrant invalid.

Given our Constitutional mandate to ensure that citizens of the country are and feel safe and secure, Police will oppose this urgent application because it is in the best interest of the public.
