Cape Town Mayor Alderman Dan Plato encourages residents to support national Netball team

In a rematch of the Netball World Cup bronze medal match, the South Africa Spar Proteas will be taking on the England Roses in a three-match Test Series. Executive Mayor Dan Plato welcomed both teams to Cape Town.

The Bellville Velodrome, fresh off successfully hosting the Africa Netball Cup last month, is the venue for the International Netball Test Series.

The series kicks off today at the City of Cape Town venue and ends on Sunday 1 December 2019.

The City has partnered with Netball South Africa to organise the event and is supporting the series by providing logistical assistance as well as event services.

'The City is proud to welcome the Spar Proteas back to Cape Town following their triumph in the Africa Netball Cup in the Mother City in October. We are also honoured to host the England Roses who present a very formidable opponent for the home team,' said Executive Mayor Dan Plato.

'This series is yet another opportunity for Netball SA and the City to showcase our capabilities of staging important Netball events in Cape Town ahead of the 2023 Netball World Cup to be hosted here in the city. It is also a chance for us as South Africans to display our gees to the world and I would like to encourage our residents to go out in their numbers to the Velodrome to support our national team.'

The first match in the three-game series kicks off on Friday, 29 November 2019 at 19:00. On Saturday, 30 November the two teams do battle at 15:00 and close off the series at 13:00 on Sunday 1 December 2019.
