Hijacking suspects arrested in KwaMashu

The Provincial Task Team members were following up on hijacking suspects when three suspects were arrested. An intelligence driven operation was conducted at Siyanda area where the suspects were found with a number of car keys suspected to be from hijacked vehicles.
Suspects were also in possession of a VW Polo that was hijacked in Newlands West in June 2018. It is alleged that the vehicle was installed with a tracker device and the tracking company located it in KwaMashu, K section minutes after the incident. Immediately after spotting the tracking company vehicle, the suspects fired multiple gunshots. The victim fled towards the police station, seeking assistance. He was not injured although his vehicle had a number of bullet holes. They will be charged for possession of suspected stolen property, carjacking and will also be linked to an attempted murder. They will appear in the Ntuzuma Magistrates Court soon.
Police are still conducting investigations to determine if the suspects can be linked to similar cases in the KwaMashu and its surroundings. Arrest on further suspects is expected since the investigation is ongoing.
