Ixopo Regional Court sentenced Qiniso Mkhize (43) to 15 years imprisonment for raping a 22-year-old woman. On 16 April 2016 at about 15:00, the victim was at her tuck shop at PlainHill area when the accused came to buy cigarettes and he then followed the victim to her room, grabbed and forced her on top of the bed and raped her. The incident was reported at Ixopo police and the docket was transferred to Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Units for further investigation. After intensive investigation, the accused was arrested and made several court appearances until his sentencing.
KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa welcomed the sentence handed down to the accused and praised the detectives for their hard work in solving the case. Violent men are not allowed to stay within our society. We will make sure that all those involved in crimes against women are sent to prison. We hope that this sentence will serve as a warning to other who would-be criminals, he said.
