The Eastern Cape Department of Education MEC, Fundile Gade will tomorrow Friday, 4 October 2019, headline the Eastern Cape's two-day World Teacher's Day celebrations to be held at the International Convention Center (ICC), in East London at 12:00 noon.
The two-day event will start with a memorial lecture in honor of the late education activist, Matthew Goniwe at the ICC.
Goniwe, who was a dedicated educator and an activist for social transformation is recognized by the department for his contribution towards making education a central pillar for knowledge development. His dedication, inspiration, kindness and encouraging high level of performance and emphasizing excellence in being a teacher has seen the department celebrate his life in various ways.
The memorial lecture will be followed by a variety of activities meant to empower educators.
Since education is mother of all professions, the department has opted to join the world in increasing recognition and respect for this profession. The department also believes observing this day will help in inspiring learners to join this noble profession.
