Media Invitation: SAPS Eastern Cape provincial women to engage at the Women’s Conference

KING WILLIAM'S TOWN As South Africans still celebrate Women's Month, the South African Police Service (SAPS) women will converge in Mthatha from 19 21 August 2019 for the Provincial Women's Conference.

About 300 women from across the province will have round table discussions aimed at Women Empowerment wherein they will discuss in detail issues that affect them in the workplace, at home and society at large and also share ideas and means to rise above the obstacles imposed to them. The progress made on Women Empowerment Agenda 2019 2024 will also unpacked.

The Women Empowerment Agenda 2019 2024 was unveiled last year when the SAPS women's leadership have met to observe Public Service Women Management Week at the same venue where the Provincial Women's Conference will be held. The Agenda is a five-year plan that seeks to improve women empowerment and their competitiveness in global policing and is premised on addressing the gender imbalances that exist and advancing unified women enrichment interventions, enabling environments in the SAPS aimed at empowering women to actively participate and contribute to sustainable policing. The Agenda also recognises the need to improve women wellness and support programmes to detect, prevent and combat Gender-Based-Violence and gender discrimination as well as to empower communities through community outreach programmes. It further embraces a holistic approach to deal with gender imbalances which were created by a patriarchal society and system.
