The Thohoyandou Police continue to visit schools in order to curb crime occurring in and around the school premises and to ensure that learners are always alert of what is happening in their vicinity.
The campaign was held today. The SAPS members were led by the Thohoyandou Station Commander Brigadier Willy Mashava.
The day started with an unannounced search operation while the unsuspecting learners were still in their respective classrooms. All the classes from grade eight to twelve were thoroughly searched reaching close to 1100 learners. Although there was nothing serious found in their possessions, police presence made a major impact.
After the search, all learners were gathered at the assembly point to be addressed by the police. Brigadier Mashava emphasized the issue of discipline as the foundation of every child to see herself or himself being successful in life or even in their studies.
Prevention of gangsterism amongst the learners was emphasized. Learners were also addressed on theft, hitchhiking, assaults, cyber bullying, substance abuse and other criminal activities in general.
