Police recover two unlicensed firearms, suspect arrested

GAUTENG A 35 year old suspect was arrested earlier today, 13 September 2019, in Vlakfontein following the recovery of two unlicensed firearms, as well as live rounds of ammunition.

Members from the Johannesburg Crime Intelligence Unit operationalised information received through a tip-off, by executing observation on the suspect's residential place. At around 05:30 the suspect was seen leaving his place of residence and the police officers executed their plan and cornered the suspect

Upon conducting a search on the 35-year-old suspect the police officers recovered a 38 special revolver and a 9mm pistol as well as 14 live rounds of ammunition. The serial numbers on both firearms were filed off. The recovered firearms will be sent for ballistic testing to determine whether they have been used in the commission of other serious and violent crimes.

The suspect is expected to appear in court soon to face charges of possession of unlicensed firearms as well as ammunition.
