Provincial Commissioner welcomes sentencing of corrupt cop: Port Elizabeth

King Willams TownThe Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Liziwe Ntshinga has welcomed the sentencing of disgraced police Constable Alicia Beeming in the Port Elizabeth Regional court today, 14 March 2019.

Between April 2014 and March 2015, Constable Beeming was involved with gang members and was in a relationship with a wanted gang member while she was an investigator at the Gang Investigation Unit in Port Elizabeth. In 2017, she was found guilty of defeating the ends of justice.

Today, she was sentenced to 4 years imprisonment. The court ordered that she will begin serving her sentence 30 days from today, giving her time to sort out her children.

Lt Gen Ntshinga re-iterated that Nobody is above the law and her sentencing is a clear indication that corruption within the South African Police Service will not be tolerated. It is very disturbing when some police officials do not abide by the SAPS Code of Conduct and abuse their powers as police officials thereby tarnishing the reputation of their colleagues and the organisation. Corrupt police officials must know that like any other criminal, crime does not pay and it is only a matter of time before they are exposed.
