Western Cape: To reduce the levels of serious crime by targeting the provincial crime generators, members of Provincial Detectives and the National Intervention Unit conducted an intelligence driven operation in Ruyterwacht in Elsies River yesterday, which resulted in the arrest of a suspect. At approximately 17:00, police members searched a residence in Carnavon Street, following an intensive investigation into the illegal activities at the address, and discovered 17 000 mandrax tablets with an estimated street value of R 850 000. The suspect, a 21 year old man is scheduled to make a court appearance in Goodwood tomorrow to face a charge of dealing in drugs. The circumstances surrounding the discovery of the drugs are still under investigation, and the possibility of more arrests is not ruled out.
The Provincial Commissioner of the Western Cape police, Lt Gen KE Jula expressed his appreciation towards the members for the outcome of the operation and said that drug dealers in this province will remain in our sights.
